1. Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) was one of the most famous of the Victorian poets.
2. Born in Somersby, Lincolnshire, Tennyson was the fourth of twelve children in a strict yet loving home.
3. He was educated at Louth Grammar School and Trinity College, Cambridge.
4. He published his first volume of poetry in 1830, Poems Chiefly Lyrical, which was not well-received.
